Real Girlz

About

A small magazine, written slowly, published when it is finished.

Real Girlz started as a folded A5 zine sold at a flea market in Mangwon in the spring of 2024. Forty copies, stapled by hand, mostly bought by friends who felt obliged. The second issue sold out in an afternoon, which was flattering and also a problem, because we had no plan.

What we settled on is this: two essays a month, one interview when we can get one, and photographs that were taken for the piece rather than found afterwards. We do not run advertising. We do not have a newsletter that tracks you. The site is a set of plain files, which is the whole technical story.

Who writes it

Mira Han writes about clothing, repair, and the economics of buying less. She has worked in a tailor's shop and a museum storage room, in that order.

Jae Oh writes about music and the rooms it happens in — shops, basements, and one particularly loud laundromat. He repairs amplifiers for money.

Editing is done by whoever is least tired. Corrections are welcome and are published at the bottom of the piece they correct.

How it is made

Pages are written in a text editor and published as static HTML. There is no content management system, no analytics script, and no third-party font. If a page looks plain, that is deliberate: it loads in one request and reads the same on a ten-year-old phone.
